I recently attended Flourish, a women’s conference put together by Covenant Church in Carrollton, TX {more info here} and one of my notes is this FOCUS, don’t let the enemy distract you.  This was a great message brought to us by Pastor Amie Dockery.  It could not have rung more accurate to me, and the timing was perfect.  I had had the thought and dream to share the stories of my past for over three years now when I received the alert it was time to renew my domain name I thought WOW Nicole when are you going to stop thinking and start doing.  I finally started sharing and of course, came distraction; it comes in so many forms:

  • You’re not good enough

  • Are you going to have your blogs edited?

  • When do you have time for that?

  • You think what happened to you is bad – uh there are other people who have had worse happen?

  • Quit feeling sorry for yourself.

  • You’re going to run out of things to say, and people don’t care.

  • No one will ever read your stories.

  • Don’t be putting your crazy on the porch.

I could go on and on, but I think you get the message.  Another TRUTH Pastor Amie spoke, “Don’t let the enemy get ahead and dictate your story.”  Wow just WOW!!  This got me to thinking I NEED to get back into the groove of things and this is not a story of self-pity and woes, this is a story of victory, joy, overcoming, and finding peace and purpose to my life.  It doesn’t matter how many people see this it matters that the right people understand this.  For all those parents who stay married for the children {please don’t we see more than you think}.  The young ladies who need to break the cycle of their parents, for the ones who only know of the judgmental God {He’s so loving and kind} He’s just waiting for you to come back to him.  Whatever part of my story speaks to the person at the right time and gives them the hope of a better life, the courage to take a step in the other direction, to stop being self sabotaging, to laugh and cry and share.  That is whom I focus for.

When you happen to come across this, please feel free to share with the people you know that need to hear my story, let us start creating change one story at a time.
